Lamb’s Victory Highlights Local Races on Primary Night

Holliston lawyer Marty Lamb beat four other Republicans during Tuesday night’s state primary to capture the Republican nomination for the U.S. 3rd congressional district, which includes Westborough.  Lamb will now face 7 term Democratic congressman Jim McGovern in November’s general election.  McGovern ran unopposed in  Tuesday’s Democratic primary. 

Lamb won his race with 31% of the vote in a crowded field with his nearest challenger coming in with 25% of the vote.

Lamb made state and national headlines leading up to the primary when he began to give out “sick of congress” information barf bags about his candidacy.  His website states that he has received requests for these bags from all over the country. 

In another race on Tuesday, businessman and former Democratic National Committee Chairman Steve Grossman beat Boston City Councilor Steve Murphy for the Democratic nomination for state treasurer.  Grossman won with 61% of the vote and will now face local Republican state representative Karyn Polito.

There is also a Governor’s race this year but all of the candidates in that race, Governor Deval Patrick, Republican Charlie Baker, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein had no primary challengers.  Current State Treasurer Tim Cahill is also running for governor as an Independent candidate.

The following are other local races impacting Westborough which will take place during November 2nd’s general election. Incumbents are in bold.

      State Senate:  (D) Jamie Eldridge  vs. (R) George Thompson (Westborough selectman)

State Representative; 9th Worcester District (Includes Westborough precincts 3 and 5):

(D) Tim Dodd (Westborough selectman) vs. (R) George Peterson

State Representative; 8th Middlesex District (Includes Westborough Precinct 2)

(D) Carolyn Dykema vs. (I) Jonathan Loya

State Representative; 11 Worcester District (Includes Westborough precincts 1 and 4):

(D)   Kevin Byrne vs. (R) Matt Beaton
