The Dedicated Dancing Machine: Laurene Aldorisio

By Jessica Steurer
A mother of three, born and raised in Northborough, and a dedicated studio owner of Laurene Aldorisio’s Academy of Dance Expressions is the name of the business Aldorisio started in 1995. Aldorisio received her Associates at Dean College and BFA at Roger Williams University. She has always had the passion for starting her own business in college and working with people. Her first job outside of college was teaching at another studio. After working with that dance business, she wanted to be able to take charge and do things the way she wanted to.
From 1995 until now her business has grown tremendously. “Testimonies in newspapers and advertisements, word of mouth, and the good reports on the teachers I have hired has helped my business become successful,” Aldorisio claims. A recommendation for future dance business owners is to stay up to date with the styles of teaching. “Teach the children other styles that you wouldn’t usually teach because it helps each student become diverse in the dance world.” Having professional experiences from Levon Robinson (Gregory Hines), Judith Jamison (Alvin Ailey), and Edra Toth (Boston Ballet) has taught Aldorisio ranges of styles in dance.
Since the age of three, Aldorisio has never stopped dancing whether it was at a studio or owning her own business. She loves to educate dancers who are well rounded in all forms of dance, and she loves working with people who have a good personality. She enjoys the rewards, fulfillments, and watching students grow as a person and dancer is her favorite aspect of teaching. Bringing back a piece called “Thriller” by Michael Jackson from over 5 years ago until last year was one of her most memorable moments as an instructor. “It was so great to see all the students’ enthusiasm about re-performing this piece at the annual recital.” Proud to be a role model to students who want to have careers in dance is what makes Aldorisio proud as an owner. For herself, her role models include Esther Allen, her dance teacher from ages 3-18 years old, and Mia Michaels, a famous contemporary choreographer.
Spending time with her family, working at the studio, and teaching four times a week, for over 20 hours a week, is what keeps Aldorisio going. She has a supportive, caring, understanding, and warm welcoming personality which is what makes her so amazing as a studio owner. She is one of the most flexible, understanding, active and friendliest people in the community. When asked where she would be in ten years she simply replied with a smile, “Where I am now.”
