The 2026-2027 school year is right around the corner and there is still time to maximize your course load for next year. WHS offers plenty of unique classes. I highly recommend giving these classes a shot as they are valuable phenomenal experiences.
Outdoor Endeavors is a course within the Physical Education & Wellness Department. The objective of the class is to teach students valuable outdoor skills like fire building, orienteering, knot tying, and archery. Although this class is light on cardio, students will definitely still want to wear close-toed shoes on the orienteering field trip as well as around the campfire. Outdoor Endeavors is a quarter-long class that is available to 10-12th graders. If you’re always looking to get outside in the fresh air during the school day, this is the class for you!
Personal Safety and Self Defense is another quarter-long class in the P.E department that is open to grades 10-12. This life skills class teaches students how to defend themselves mentally and physically in the outside world. This course covers internet safety, martial arts and self defense. This course partners with the Westborough Police Department in teaching these sensitive but useful concepts and skills. This course is highly recommended for females as well as anyone keen on developing self defense skills that are highly applicable in the real world.
Beekeeping is a full-year course open to juniors and seniors. According to a student in the class, Beekeeping is essentially an “extension of anatomy”. Beekeeping is a hands-on class where students will learn to tend to bees, keep the hive in order, and craft products from honey. The hives are located on the front lawn of WHS; students will spend a lot of time outside at the hives as well as honing their skills in the classroom. This class allows students to spend time in the sunshine in addition to gaining valuable knowledge on bees and their effects on the environment.
The Civics: Case Method Project is a semester-long level 5 course available only to seniors. Although there are no prerequisites to take the class, it is a rigorous course where students should be prepared to dedicate lots of time to studying and assignments. The Case Method was founded from Harvard Business School 1921. This Civics class focuses on advanced readings and comprehensive discussions. This class is ideal for students that are especially interested in Politics, Government and Social Science.
Modernism is a half-year class available to upperclassmen. Modernism focuses on the Modernist movement which took place in the early 1900’s. The Modernist movement focuses on the transition from traditional art styles and ways of thinking to more abstract and experimental forms of art and expression. Whether you take the course L3 or L4, students will be sure to gain understanding of 20th century visual and fine arts. This course teaches students to analyze contemporary culture and understand factors of the modernist world. The WHS program of studies describes the class as “involving reading, discussion; slide lectures, listening to music, field trips, written assignments, and creative projects”. This class is perfect for anyone remotely interested in media, art, and literature.
