Throughout Dunkin’ stores across the country, a new drink has been introduced: The Dunkin’ Protein Refresher. With the use of “protein milk” in the refreshers, 15 grams of protein is added alongside new flavors, such as Megan’s Mango and Strawberry Protein. Multiple high tier celebrities have also been advertising it, such as Megan Thee Stallion (Hence, Megan’s Mango). But, this makes people raise the question, is it worth the buy?
I’ve tried the Dunkin Protein Refreshers multiple times. During my time trying them, another flavor came out, which is berry. After trying all the flavors and different combinations, here is my review.
The protein refreshers are good. My favorite flavor is Megan’s Mango. I like how the taste of the mango blends in well with the protein milk. The taste reminds me of a mango lassi. The color is also very nice, light yellow. I also really liked the strawberry flavor. It gave a sweet taste in my mouth, but not a super sweet one as other refreshers. The color is also very nice. It’s a nice mix of white and red. The berry flavor was good (light purple color), but anytime I took a sip, there was some sort of flavor in there that didn’t work well with me, so I didn’t enjoy it as much compared to the others.
The Dunkin’ protein refreshers differ from its competitors’ such as Starbucks due to the options and varieties available. Starbucks sells protein coffees, but a good amount of people don’t drink coffee and would rather have something else. Dunkin’ offers protein coffees and refreshers so people can get either.
Even though the Dunkin’ protein refreshers give 15 grams of protein and are 200-300 calories, people are concerned about the amount of sugar, which is fair. A Dunkin’ Protein Refresher contains around 55 grams of added sugars. This is over the recommended amount of added sugar consumption (50 grams). Due to the unequal ratio of sugar to protein, this drink is considered to be an unhealthy drink disguised as healthy.
In my opinion, I would say to go try out the protein refreshers. As said before, they do taste good, (the best one being mango) and they give you an extra 15 grams of protein. However, I do understand people’s concerns over the amount of sugar. 55 grams of sugar is a lot. I also think there should be a bit more protein for the amount of calories. So what I advise people to do is to customize the order so the amount of sugar and calories are low. I also advise people to not have it all the time, but to have it occasionally. In conclusion, go try the refreshers, but make sure to not drink it too much. The protein refreshers can be found at any Dunkin’ in the nation.
