As I entered the sunny state of Hawaii, I was greeted as I first stepped off the plane with a happy “aloha!” and lei placed around my neck. My first impressions of getting off the plane were great. As I stepped off I was greeted with a very warm welcome and smiles from everyone which I thought was a great first impression of the state. The smell of the fresh flowers immediately hit my senses as well as the warm air that hit my skin and I knew this was going to be a good week.
This was my second time in the state of Hawaii and my first visiting the island of Maui. One of the things that Maui is known for is their stunning golden beaches and their scenic road to Hana which my family was going to be sure to see. Coming to the state, me and my family made sure to have a very well thought out itinerary so that we could use the best possible way of our trip. Our trip was from Sunday to Friday and this is what my family planned for our itinerary.
Itinerary:
- Sunday:
-
- Check into the resort (Wailea Marriott Beach Resort)

- Snorkeling, beach day, and lunch on the island of Lanai

- Hawaiian luau/ pool day
Me and my family had a great time exploring the island and the multiple different beaches and cultural areas specific to the island of Hawaii. One of the things I would highly recommend while visiting the island of Maui is the luau at the Grand Wailea. Once we entered the luau, we were immediately greeted with warm welcomes and leis. There was entertainment and fun the entire night making the night filled with lots of laughter and good times spent with family and friends.
The food that was served at the luau was local to the Hawaiian culture and island. The staff served us a total of three different courses, starting with an appetizer course that consisted of mac and cheese salad, greek caesar salad, and chips and dip. After we had our first round of food we got our second round of food which was the main portion, this consisted of pork straight from the pig that they had cut open in front of us, steak, and different types of chicken. The final course was the dessert course which we got handed at the end of the night after all the entertainment was over. The dessert course consisted of fresh local fruit, and pineapple upside down cake. Overall, I would recommend this luau to anyone who is traveling to the island of Maui with their family. Although pork was one of the very yummy foods that they served, it was not very open and friendly to people with dietary restrictions with meat.
The entertainment of this luau was incredible. It started off with a story being told about the island and some of the natives on the island, and the night ended with an incredible performance from the guys doing a fire show. The fire show was insane as they twirled sticks of fire around their faces and even one of the guys put the fire in their mouth and ate it and spit it back out.
The helicopter ride was the next best thing that me and my family did. We took the helicopter out of Kauai for about an hour. The ride was breathtaking, very scenic, and a good experience to have.
Overall, my experience in Hawaii was very good and I would recommend both the island of Maui and the Marriott Family Resort that we stayed in, it was both very family friendly and also not totally family oriented. It had a good mix in between.
