On Thursday night, the Rangers Varsity Football team had high hopes
in beating the Shrewsbury Colonials. It looked like those hopes would come true as
senior Jake Holmes’ touchdown was called back due to a holding penalty.
The Colonials scored their first touchdown in the second quarter; however,
missed the extra point. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter with two minutes left when
Rangers’ senior Brian Orlando evened the score. Unfortunately the Rangers did not
make the extra point, which sent the game into overtime. The Rangers had the ball
first but could not score; the Colonials scored on their first possession ending the
game with a 12-6 defeat for the Rangers.
“We played our hearts out, it’s obviously disappointing to lose a touch
game like that and we made a lot of mistakes tonight. That wasn’t
close to our best game and when we can cut down on our mistakes, we
will be a force in Central Mass.,” commented senior Dan Potts.
The Rangers are now 1-1. They will play their first home game as well as
celebrate Homecoming on September 25 against St. John’s.
