The Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team’s future is looking extremely promising this season. With a 3-2 record, the players have really stepped up to pull out some important wins. Captains Alexa Conlin (Jr.), Lauren Almy (Jr.) , and Vaishali Malik (Sr.) lead the team with enthusiasm and energy, while returning players Samantha Mack (Jr.), Enya Truong (Jr.), Maggie Liu (Jr.), Winona Noronha (Jr.), and Kavya Krishna (So.) demonstrate extreme athleticism on the court. The squad also gained some new talent, as Bhargavi Ram (So.), Megan Ku (Fr.), Sandi Iyer (Fr.), and Kathryn Pelser (Fr.) joined the team and have shown tremendous potential.

Although four key team members graduated last year, the players have overcome that obstacle. They have adjusted to their new roles comfortably, and this is certainly reflected on the court.  Captain Conlin comments, “The season is going really well for us. The beginning was a bit of a bumpy ride, but we have practiced and gained some new skills that will definitely allow us to win more matches.” Captain Almy remarks, “This season we are doing great considering many of our key players left. I’m really excited to see us improve as the season continues.”

Not only has the team excelled on the court, but they also engaged in a community service project with Tenacity, an organization that gives underprivileged children opportunities to play tennis. The squad partnered with Westborough Ski and Tennis to help string rackets which were then donated. The girls have worked with Tenacity in the past and were very eager to participate again.

The Rangers have defeated Hudson (4-1), Shepherd Hill (3-2), and Groton Dunstable (5-0), while falling short to Shrewsbury (0-5) and Wachusett (0-5) in close matches. The team will face Algonquin at 3:30 pm at Algonquin Regional High School on Wednesday, April 29 and will play Quabbin on the WHS tennis courts Thursday, April 30 at 4:00 pm. With a hopeful future, the squad is off to a fantastic start.
