As the spring season comes to a start, all eyes are on the WHS Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Team and their new head coach, Kyle Biancardi. Coach Biancardi, or Coach B, has very high praise for them, but also admits that there’s still room for improvement. He comments, “This is a team full of leaders.”
Last season the Varsity Lacrosse Team had a solid season under former, head coach Tom Baker. A 13-5 record allowed the 2014 team to reach the district tournament where they lost to Westfield in the quarterfinals. With many talented players returning to the program, the team has a great chance to make a serious run for the district title.
Seniors Jake Foster, Jack Pierce, Jake Srebnik, Hackeem Abrahams, Stephen Falvey, Dan Labriola , and Justin Beron are some of the key returning players to this years Varsity Lacrosse Team. Foster, who was an offensive juggernaut last season, is committed to play at the University of Hartford, and plans on having yet another great season. Foster has great aspirations for the season to come, stating, “It’s all about the little things, we will play with heart and confidence and lead ourselves to a district title.”
The schedule looks bright for the team this year. They only lost five games last year, two of which were to Algonquin and St. Johns. St Johns won 13-8 last year and will face off against the Varsity team at the end of the season this year. Algonquin, their fierce rival, is also on the schedule and the team is looking for payback after last years loss.
The Varsity team is preparing for their first game on April 2 against Leominster. This game is at home and everyone should come and show support for this promising team. Talented junior defenseman Nick Gallo also had some final words about the upcoming season. When Gallo was asked about how he believes it will turn out, his response was,“One word: Successful.”
