Homecoming Game: Rangers Fall Short

By Mohammed Ramzanali

The Westborough Rangers played in their Homecoming game on September 27, 2014 against the Hudson Hawks. This was the Rangers’ second annual “Rangers Tackle Leukemia” football game. The team had already suffered a tough loss in last year’s “Rangers Tackle Leukemia” game vs the Shrewsbury Colonials, so they hoped to work harder this year and be able to earn a win. Unfortunately they fell short.

The game started off with high intensity. The score was 34-27 in the Rangers’ favor with 7:02 left to play in the final quarter. However, Hudson sophomore quarterback Armel Conyers completed two huge fourth quarter touchdowns to take the lead. With the help of his defense, the Hudson Hawks pulled out a win to close out a great of football.

When the Hawks were on defense, they were able to make important stops. They forced Westborough to be on a 4th and 22 when junior quarterback Daniel Lis threw an incomplete pass to wide receiver Justin Beron.

The Westborough Rangers did capitalize on many big plays. They scored after senior cornerback Adam Frye intercepted a ball in the second quarter. The Hawks came right back to take the lead 34-27. It didn’t take long before Lis connected with senior captain, Jake Srebnik, on a 71-yard touchdown pass to tie it up at 34-34. Right after this, the Hawks’ quarterback Conyers completed a pass to senior Kyle Sullivan who rushed for an 80-yard touchdown. The score was 34-34 with the opportunity or the Rangers to make a last minute play. The Hawks’ defended superiorly, and stopped the Ranger offense, forcing them to take a knee as the Hawks’ won the game.

Daniel Lis and senior Steve Falvey were able to convert all throughout the game; Lis threw two touchdown passes to Falvey. The passes were both two deep passes, one from 56 yards and the other from 54 yards out. Lis was able to go 8-13 for the day with 167 yards. Falvey also had two running touchdowns from 22 yards and 19 yards. Despite playing hard, the Rangers came up short by a touchdown in their second annual “Rangers tackle leukemia” football game.
