Preview: Dig Pink Volleyball Game

By Zach Smith, Kaylie Doherty, and Carly Flahive

Every year the WHS girls’ volleyball team hosts a game night dedicated to raising money for the Sideout Foundation which raises awareness for breast cancer. This year the game will be played Wednesday, October 15 in the WHS gym at 6:15pm against Shepard Hill.

It’s an evening where the community comes together to support the fight against breast cancer and the Rangers. With donation buckets, baked goods sales, and a ceremony to honor those who have fought the battle, lost the battle, or are fighting to overcome cancer, the night is full of community support.

Kaylie Doherty, junior outside hitter for the Rangers shares “Many players throughout the program have someone close to them who has been affected by cancer in some way.” She also expresses how “the game is a ton of fun to play in because of the many fans that come out to support the cause. Although an emotional night, it is very rewarding.”

The Rangers for a Cure club also has a table to collect donations and buy pink accessories to wear throughout the night. With many people in the community coming together for this event, the night has proven to be a success in the past.

So far, over $400 has been raised, and the night has yet to approach. Hopefully, everyone can make it to the game and show their support for the cause.

The fact that the teams are putting aside the competition and bringing awareness to breast cancer is truly very thoughtful. Everyone who goes to the game will not only enjoy the rallying, but they will know about the spreading disease. This article was well-written and very informative, and I enjoyed reading it.
