Boys’ Soccer Attempts to Repeat History

Boys+Soccer+Attempts+to+Repeat+History

by:  Alex Hoban

Ten years ago the boys’ soccer program won the State championship, which gave them a permanent display on the wall inside the gym for their team to be remembered forever. Now in 2013, the boys will attempt to repeat once again.  They already edged out Algonquin in the semi-finals on Wednesday night in what will always be remembered as a grueling grudge match between two bitter rivals.

Both teams were viscous from the start as when regulation time ended the score remained 0-0. Advancing ti overtime, the game seemed to remain the same as both team’s defenses remained strong, which brought the game into a second round of overtime.

Narrowly saving a handful of Algonquin shots was sophomore goal keeper Griffin Barry who kept the Rangers in the game with a miraculous performance.

Just as it seemed the Rangers may face penalty kicks, senior Jaime Plowman kicked a perfect ball and scored the winning goal which ended the game at 1-0. This now advances the Rangers into uncharted territory as they face Wachusett in the District Finals.

If the Rangers are to win they will qualify to face off against other district champions to compete for a state championship, much like what was acquired in 2003. The Rangers hope to continue their deep run in the playoffs and to end up as the last ones standing in Massachusetts.

They will need the support of all of their fans, so please come to the Finals @ Wachusett 5pm on Saturday.
