Season four of the Emmy-winning comedy show Abbott Elementary premiered on October 9, 2024. The show is available to stream on Hulu and HBO Max. It’s currently airing every Wednesday at 9:30 PM.
The show continues to engage fans with its humor, heartfelt scenes, and social commentary. Abbott Elementary is about a “group of dedicated, passionate teachers and a slightly tone-deaf principal” who are “determined to help their students” at a Philadelphia public school “succeed in life” while navigating their way through underfunded education systems and personal struggles they encounter on the way.
Season three ended on a cliffhanger when a romance started to bloom between two of the characters, Gregory and Janine, and season four touches upon their attempts at balancing their relationship with their work lives. Season two of the show ended with Janine rejecting Gregory because she wasn’t ready to fully commit to a relationship, frustrating fans deeply. However, to everyone’s delight season three ended completely differently. Although, during the season three premiere it conveyed that Janine had changed her mind Gregory had already moved on. The season also marks the return to a 22-episode format which unfortunately, last season, had to be cut down due to the Writers Guild of America Strike.
One of the main conflicts in season four is a new golf course being made in Philadelphia attracting many different people there. Gentrification seems to be the main problem this season so far. One fan stated on Twitter that “the golf course storyline will be well-developed and address real-life problems in a thoughtful, yet humorous manner”.
Quinta Brunson, the actress who plays Janine, stated during the show’s SDCC Panel appearance that a big crossover is on the way for Abbott. She noted that “Deals are made. I want you guys to know that. I’ll say I’m really excited for it,” The crossover is happening with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Rob McElhenney, who created and stars in the show, shared images of himself on Thursday with “Abbott” creator Quinta Brunson on the set of the Warner Bros. Both series are set in Philadelphia.
Abbott Elementary is a phenomenal TV show and I highly recommend watching it.
