Student Council Impresses All

By Emma Grossman

A few weeks ago, Westborough High’s very own student council did the impossible; they hosted a fall conference and a bocce tournament for the entire district. This might not seem like such a huge deal to you, however, it was an incredibly demanding task which took months of planning and many long hours of preparation.

The Central District Massachusetts Association of Student Councils (CDMASC) selected Westborough to host the conference this year, which is an event where student council members from all over the district come together to learn from one another and boast their accomplishments in their own councils thus far. Normally the conference has around 300 attendees, this year, however, there were over 700 student council members and advisors at WHS on Friday November 13. With more than double the normal amount of people, Stuco really had to kick it into gear and put in extreme amounts of effort, some members even staying at the school as late as eight at night the week leading up to the conference, just trying to ensure that everything went off without a hitch.

Westborough’s student council president Kiley Fitzgerald was exceptionally pleased her council, saying, “Stuco has put in so much work these past few months planning out every last detail of this conference and I could not be more proud of everything we accomplished. It takes a lot of people to put together an event like this and it wouldn’t have been such a success if everyone hadn’t chipped in and pulled their weight like they did.”

Two days after the success of the fall conference, on November 15, Westborough also hosted a Bocce Tournament. The tournament is an event in which student councils from all over the district partner up with the Best Buddies club at their school to compete in a series of friendly bocce games in the gymnasium at the high school.

Junior Alexa Nichols and Senior Sam Berg were in charge of running the bocce tournament this year, and, like Fitzgerald, were elated with the success of the event. “The tournament went off without a hitch and we could not be more pleased with how everything turned out. We’re just glad we were able to run this fantastic event for all the players and fans that came to the games,” stated Nichols, referring to her and Berg’s achievements during the games. Just like with the fall conference, student council put in countless hours of work into making the tournament a great success.

All in all, stuco pulled off an incredible feat that took a lot of hard work, cooperation, and communication throughout all members on council.
