Welcoming Another Ranger: New Assistant Principal Ms.Barrett

By Erin Doyle and Sara Anderson

One of our latest additions to the Ranger team is assistant principal Ms. Barrett, former English teacher at Braintree High School. After graduating from Boston College with a Masters in Curriculum and Education, she continued her education at Fitchburg State University, while teaching, to receive her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in order to become an administrator.

Although Ms. Barrett is no longer teaching, she still hopes to spend a good amount of time in the classroom because she valued the relationship with her students when she was a teacher; she doesn’t want to lose touch with those relationships with students even though she won’t be working directly with them. Ms. Barrett will be working closely with WHS classes of 2018 and 2019, but that doesn’t mean she is against getting to know the upperclassmen.

One aspect of WHS that Ms. Barrett admires is how positive our school is. About applying for the administration job, she said, “The way they wrote it (the job posting) was so positive and it seemed like such a nice place to be, I knew I wanted to apply.” She also loves how administration is so involved in the classroom and students’ lives even though the classroom isn’t their office. “It’s not every day you find a school like that,” she agrees.

Not only does Ms. Barrett love how positive the environment is at our school, she is impressed by the enthusiasm and school spirit. When asked about the senior parade, she was impressed and said  “what you guys did shows a lot about your school spirit and energy.”

Definitely seeing a future for herself here, Ms. Barrett hopes to get to know the culture here and how things work at WHS, which she has already been doing well.   She says, “Everyone here is so positive and so supportive, it’s been a pretty easy transition.” Right now, this is the perfect position for her to be in and couldn’t be more excited to see what the year and future holds.

This was a really well written profile on the new assistant principal. They went into good detail about important background information and explained what she wanted to bring to the school. The quotes were well chosen and added a personal touch of Ms. Barrett in the article.
