The Fresh Monkee, a brand-new smoothie and shake spot, recently opened a location in Westborough. They offer a variety of drinks but are mainly known for their delicious protein shakes. From their fruit smoothies, protein shakes, and frozen lemonades, all of their drinks have something different to offer! They prioritize making healthy drinks without sacrificing flavor and freshness. We went to try some of the new drinks, and while it was on the more expensive side, it certainly did not disappoint.
When you first step into The Fresh Monkee, your eyes are immediately drawn to the bright colors of the rainforest-themed decals on the walls. There are also plenty of great seating options; we opted to sit in the three comfortable chairs surrounding a round table, but there are also a few more standard tables and a couch! As we sat down to drink our smoothies, we had plenty of time to enjoy the music they were playing. We also noticed the cute banana tree decorations.
The fun decorations and comfortable seating that The Fresh Monkee offers make it an amazing study spot for anyone tired of overcrowded coffee shops. They even display their own Wi-Fi network for any customers looking to get some work done.
As many healthy food places are, the Fresh Monkee was pretty expensive. A small drink was 16 oz and $8.25 without a tip. The price is justifiable since they use expensive, fresh, ingredients, but it’s definitely a little excessive for a small drink.
Another aspect of the store that might be appealing to anyone who is into healthy or protein-packed food, is the arrangement of protein bars and other snacks they have available for customers.
Abbie:
I tried the flavor “Sunset”, which has oranges, pineapples, and strawberries. I really enjoyed it, although the pulp from the oranges might bother some people. It was more tart than sweet, which I preferred! I got the smallest size, and the total cost with tip was about $10.48. With the drink being so small, I found the price to be a little too much, but it was very good!

I tried the Watermelon Strawberry Limeade. The drink was less of a thick, fruit smoothie, and closer to the texture of a thinner frozen lemonade. Personally, I really enjoyed having the option to get a drink that was not a smoothie or shake, since it was less filling and more refreshing. The drink was very watermelon-forward and I didn’t really get any limeade flavor, but I still enjoyed it. I’ve also tried the Monkee Balls, which are peanut butter chocolate protein balls. They were really delicious and I would recommend them if you are looking for a snack alongside your drink!

I tried the Dirty Filthy Monkee. Yes, that’s what it’s called. It’s a chocolate-based protein shake with Nutella and peanut butter. It tasted really good, and honestly, I couldn’t even tell that what I was drinking was a protein shake. One thing I found odd was that the ingredients of the drinks were not actually viewable on the drink list which was odd, meaning I just selected my drink based on its name alone. While I’m sure I could’ve asked and been told what the ingredients in my drink were, it was odd it wasn’t visible from the start. My only minor complaints were that the drink got pretty icy by the end and was more similar to shaved ice than a shake, and also the price of the drink itself, a complaint that has been echoed already throughout this review. However, I still recommend the spot as a healthy, delicious alternative to other places (if you’re willing to pay the extra bit)!
If you want a spot to get some work done while grabbing a healthy snack, or if you just want to try out a fresh new drink spot, the Fresh Monkee is the place for you. Needless to say, this new spot is definitely worth a try- if you have a few extra dollars to spend! Stop monkeying around and head on over to the Fresh Monkee!
