Microsoft’s New Surface Pro 3

Microsofts+New+Surface+Pro+3

By Anushka Ghosh

Considering its formidable size and dominance, Microsoft is never regarded as an underdog. Since the launch of the Surface Pro 3, Microsoft has wanted to create an unlimited mobile computing device, one which has the capability to replace the laptop. The Pro 3 is the closest Microsoft has ever been to achieving that goal, and might very well be the closest of any laptop-tablet hybrid released yet.

It’s 12’’wide touch screen has an aspect ratio of 3:2, and the company claims that it can display more content than Apple’s MacBooks due to this ratio. Wrapped in a bright, silver-colored magnesium shell, it is cool and smooth to the touch. It is also thinner and lighter than it ancestors. Microsoft also moved the Windows home button from the bottom to the device’s left side. This way, it appears on the bottom of the slate while held upright, calling out, “Hey, hold it this way now”.

A tablet can never replace a laptop without a keyboard, and the newly improved keyboard contains keys that actually clicks and is compatible with the wider glass. However, the most important improvement is the brand new double hinge. A stronger magnet is present at the bottom of tablet enabling it to stand with just a portion of its stand touching the desk or the user’s lap. In other words, this device can easily be used by placing it on the lap. Also, the company has improved its stylus. Microsoft purposely calls their stylus a pen, because it wants the users to feel like they are using a known instrument. The stylus also a clicker on the top, to make it feel like it is a pen. Not only is the stylus chic, it is also accurate.

The new Surface Pro 3 is designed to be a mix of both work and play. Its desktop applications and keyboard help it replace a laptop, while its exterior design and stylus allow the users to relax while working. As it is also a tablet, it contains apps to spend the leisure time playing games or watching movies.

This device is money well spent and is perfect for working people. I have owned one for a couple of months, and I don’t have use any other electronic devices (except for my phone to make calls). The desktop includes all the features (word, powerpoint, excel, etc.) I need to complete my assignments successfully. After a day of hard work, I can kick back with a new movie of my surface and a cold tub of ice-cream.
