Seniors Last Day!
Congratulations!

Track Season Ready for the Competition

By: Kiley Fitzgerald

Keep with this years Westborough High School track teams as they hurl spears into the field, whip balls as far as they can, and launch themselves to the sky as they pole-vault as high as they can. Both the male and female track teams have strong, returning veterans as well as some fresh, energetic newcomers. Many of the seniors, and some select juniors, have competed at districts and regionals where many advanced and qualified for states. This year, there’s a lot of promise and buzz from this unit of athletes.

One team captain for the girls track team, senior Rebecca Pisca, heavily believes in the runners this year. The team has athletes like senior captain Oren Dennett along with juniors Eric Latimer and Anna Gimilaro who are season ‘trackies’ working hard for a strong season. Piscia believes, “This year will be one for the books. Hopefully our teammates can work together for a successful season.” She has participated on the indoor and outdoor track teams all four years of high school. She runs the four by four relay and is ecstatic to pass the anchor position on to the upcoming juniors.

What sets the track team apart from the other sports here at WHS would be its expert coaching and dedicated athletes. Dennett recalled, “I ran about 500 miles in these shoes, and they work great! A usual day for me is probably 10 miles give or take a few.” He is “one hard worker” according to teammates and he’s inspired kids to work just as hard.

Overall, the track and field teams are looking great. They have positive energy and promising talent. Hopefully they can bring home some awards and demonstrate what a great season Westborough has in store.
