WHS Students Trip to Belize

WHS+Students+Trip+to+Belize

by:  Cassie DiSaia

Over February break some WHS students attended the school trip to the warm and sunny Belize, these students all shared unforgettable experiences and memories.

They enjoyed the opportunity to tour ancient and beautiful Mayan ruins and learned about the culture of the Mayans.  They also explored coral reefs, seeing bright and colorful fish along and giant turtles within arms length.  Many students describe their favorite part of the trip as their visit to a Belizean Elementary school.  These young Belizeans demonstrated their love for their country with a pledge of their allegiance and their excitement for our students to attend their school.  They played many fun filled games like red rover and took lots of adorable pictures.  Westborough students also got to see what it was like to tube through a beautiful cave in the rainforests of Belize.  These activities educated Westborough students on the culture and beauties of Belize.

Students also made connections with one other that will last a lifetime because they were given the opportunity to experience a whole new side of the world and become immersed in a completely different culture.

Senior Jen Hu recounts, “This trip was such an amazing experience for not only world travel and cultural immersion, but also for creating close bonds with others. It was great to leave this isolated suburban community for once and experience the culture and lifestyle of a different country. Everyone on the trip became such good friends, and we shared so many great memories together. I would absolutely recommend WHS students to sign up for an EF Tour trip if given the opportunity because this is the best time of our lives to travel to world, and we (students) should take advantage of it!”

Science teacher and organizer of the trip Dr. Ryan comments, “The reason I organize these trips is because I love seeing the world through the eyes of the students. ”  This trip was memorable and life changing for all those who were given the opportunity to experience Belize.

Overall the students had an extraordinary visit, they enjoyed being a part of a new culture and participating in exciting new activities.  These students were a bit shocked by the cold as they returned home to the negative temperatures of New England, but were very excited to share their stories and memories from such an amazing and beautiful trip.
