Westborough High School’s Center Stage presents PIPPIN, March 6,7,8

NEWS RELEASE–PIPPIN is a timeless coming of age story, perfect for young people trying to figure out what life really means in a complex world. And knowingly familiar for those who have shared PIPPIN’s struggles in arriving at adulthood.
WHS’s Center Stage is taking a creative approach to the staging of PIPPIN.  While the 1970’s Broadway production drew on earthy and hippie fashions, and the recent Broadway revival of the show employed a circus theme, WHS is producing  “steam punk” themed sets and costuming — combining an industrial backdrop and Victorian stylings.
The music, staging and dance for the show promises to be top notch.  The pit orchestra was selected from competitive auditions for seats in this year’s ensemble as student interest in the musical was strong.  WHS’s MICCA Gold award winning band, orchestra and chorus members will provide the musical accompaniment so vital to this production.  Several of the PIPPIN cast members were selected to sing with National High School Honor Chorus in Nashville last fall. A new choreographer is bringing inspired dance movement to the show’s already engaging dialogue and musical numbers.  WHS’s collaborative arts faculty combines the talents and support from its choral, band, orchestra, art, dance and theater programs for a seamlessly coherent production where the tech crew is on par behind the curtain with those you’ll get to see on stage.
Over 100 students in total have worked to bring this fresh and fascinating production to the WHS auditorium stage.

The show is appropriate for teens through adults and senior audiences.  Prince PIPPIN, son of King Charlemagne, is on a quest to find an extraordinary life.  He receives advice (not always wise) and influence (not always good) from his father, step mother and step brother, grandmother, and a young widow with a small child — all while under the continuous direction of the “Leading Players” who coax him to “Think about your life, PIPPIN!”  Ultimately, PIPPIN figures out what makes life meaningful by listening to his own heart.

Please come out for a great show.
