The girls’ varsity basketball team lost to rival Algonquin this past Saturday with a final score of 47-26. With a current record of 2-4-0, the Rangers hope to turn things around this week against North Middlesex.

The Tomahawks have always been a tough team for the Rangers but with their young team, Westborough had trouble putting the ball away. Freshman Melissa Mitrovoch led the team with nine points followed by sophomore Hayley Brown who tallied eight points for the Rangers.

Westborough tried many times to get set up their offense but with Algonquin’s tough defense, they weren’t granted many baskets. Losing junior captain Kaylie Doherty for the night was tough for the Rangers. With few post players able to play, Mitrovoch helped carry the team with points.

The Rangers hope to fill their bench this week with healthy players who can put up some hoops and improve the record as the season progresses. Westborough takes on North Middlesex away tomorrow night at 6 pm.
