This past Saturday, the Westborough Ranger Football team earned their second victory of the season. Playing at home, the Rangers took on the Burncoat Patriots. Both teams entered the game looking to improve on their 1-7 records.

The Rangers got off to a great start, scoring 28 points to Burncoat’s 0 in the first half. Senior running backs Mike Heffernan and Steven R. Falvey both had stellar games, combining for 257 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Despite many injuries, the Westborough defense played its best game of the season, letting up only 14 points to the Patriots. Senior Justin Beron, who returned an interception for a touchdown in the game, said of the defense’s performance, “The defense really came to play. We brought a lot of intensity, and played with purpose. We look to carry that level of intensity to next week versus Southbridge.”

Overall, the Rangers put together their best performance of the season. The team seemed to be firing on all cylinders and came out victorious, 35-14.
