With the MLB preseason lockdown coming to a close and opening day approaching, the Red Sox are shaping up for another great post-season run. In this offseason, unlike most teams in the MLB, the Red Sox stayed quiet but brought in a big-ticket infielder in Trevor Story.

Trevor Story was acquired during free agency for 6-years/$140 Million. Trevor Story was on the Colorado Rockies and is 29 years old. On the Rockies, Story was an All-Star Shortstop and will share the infield with 3 times All-Star Xander Bogaerts, one of the top shortstops in the league. The Redsox stellar infield is topped off with third baseman Rafael Devers and first baseman Bobby Dalbec on the corners.

The Red Sox last season made a good run in the playoffs, losing 4 games to 2 to the Astros in the American League Championship Series. As long as they keep their pitching rotation healthy, I expect them to expand on their playoff run this year. I believe that they can return to the World Series and possibly bring it back to Boston for the 10th time in franchise history.

The Red Sox open up their 2022-23 season on April 7th against their rivals, The New York Yankees. Some key players to keep a lookout for during that game is Trevor Story #10  in his Red Sox debut, Xander Bogarts #2, and the speedy centerfielder Enrique “Kike” Hernandez #5.

In my opinion, these 3 stars will help the Red Sox produce runs because they are explosive and can consistently get on base. This trio will benefit the whole team this season because hitting is contagious and when one gets hot they all get hot; in my eyes, that is hard to beat.

I asked other WHS students that are excited about this upcoming season. I asked them who they are most excited to see:

Brady Robinson says he “is most excited to see Rafael Devers because he has lots of power and he is a joy to watch on the field and in the batter’s box”.

Mikey Ku says he is “most excited about the competition in the AL East division between designated hitters J.D Martinez and Yankees Giancarlo Stanton”.

Overall, I am most excited to watch Enrique Hernandez because of his crafty skills in the outfield. Also, I am looking forward to watching Kike run the bases because he is very quick and decisive. He also makes heads-up plays while running the bases that make the game a little more interesting.

Remember to tune in on April 7th at 1:05 EST to watch the Red Sox kick off their 2022-23 season against the New York Yankees on New England Sports Network (NESN).
