Boston is a City of Champions Once Again

On February 3, 2019, the Patriots defeated the Rams 13-3 to win their sixth Super Bowl title. The Patriots were a 2.5 point favorite going into the game, and they covered that spread with ease. Julian Edelman was named the Super Bowl MVP with 10 catches for 141 yards. Not only this, but the win was another huge landmark to Tom Brady’s legacy. He now has more Super Bowl titles than 30 NFL franchises. Even though it was a great game in the eyes of Patriots fans, many NFL fans thought it was one of the most boring super bowls of all time.

This game was the best example you could get of the expression “defense wins championships.” Even though the Patriots only scored 13 points, it was their first double digit Super Bowl win in franchise history. The defense stepped up more than anyone could’ve imagined, and it was the key part of the Patriots win. However, many fans thought this defensive battle was boring, and wanted to see an offensive shootout.

NBA superstar Lebron James tweeted, “Man where Shams, Woj, Haynes, and McMenamin at?” Lebron is talking about NBA insiders, as he was bored of the game and wanted to hear NBA news instead. However, some people did enjoy this defensive battle. Westborough’s own Alex Badger stated, “It was a really defensive matchup, which made it difficult for the casual fan to appreciate.”

This years Super Bowl was a complete turn around from years past, as the final score of the 2018 Super Bowl was 41-33, and the final score of the 2017 Super Bowl was 34-28. Especially with the offensive firepower of Tom Brady of the Patriots and Todd Gurley of the Rams, not many people were expecting this low final score. But the Patriots managed to hang on and come out with a victory in Super Bowl 53.

No matter what the public thought of this interesting Super Bowl, Tom Brady and the Patriots have won their sixth Super Bowl title. Students at Westborough high celebrated by wearing their Pats gear all throughout the week before, as well as that following Monday. Some even decided to spend Tuesday at the parade, and the weather could not have been better. It’s been a great year for Boston sports with the Red Sox winning the World Series prior to the Super Bowl as well. Hopefully the Celtics and Bruins can bring it home too.
