Countdown to April Break!
Have a Wonderful Break!

He Said, She Said..What did you hear?

The weekend is over and first period starts. “No no no, I was there, I totally saw him hook up with her.” “Really, I’m her best friend, she told me that they didn’t.” “Wait so does his girlfriend know?” The typical comments made by high school girls whenever there is a scandal. My question is, who really cares? When you’re the one that they are talking about, it may not seem too funny, but I have to admit, when ever I am exposed to these conversations, I always listen in. What I don’t understand is why people find these things so amusing. Do we ever stop and think about who is actually hurting in this so called game of Truths and Rumors?

Not only can rumors certainly break up friendships and relationships, but how do we know a person is a credible source? Having someone say they saw it can only mean so much. Typical high school parties unfortunately include alcohol and drugs, and do those make people’s ‘vision’ clearer? And what about those so called best friends that know everything, but claim nothing happened. Are they telling the truth, or just trying to cover up something so “no one gets hurt”?

Bottom line is that apparently a guy and girl hooked up and the girlfriend is left out of the loop. What does she think about this? What does he think about this? What do you guys think about this? Clearly it’s in all of your interests to talk about it, but would you be the one to tell the girl if you really saw it? Would you want someone to tell you? Rather than talking about it, maybe step it up and tell the person if it really concerns you. So think about it. What would you do? Are you playing along in the game of Truths and Rumors?

Vanessa you are such a great writer! I love this piece and agree with everything you said. Rumors are horrible, especially for the person that they are about. Keep up the great work!

Great post I am a continual vablogger and this is a great topic for discussion. I absolutely agree that rumors circulate ridiculous high school nonsense. Put it to you this way, the way girls talk here is the like the high school tabloid…DONT READ IT.

Vanessa- I love this blog, I really think that it addresses a serious problem in High school culture. I have close friends who have been really hurt by rumour spreading and more importantly, hurt by their friends who did not feel the need to divulge the truth, It is a cruelty which exists mainly among girls; secret keeping which ruins relationships and exposes the worst sides of so- called friends who play the game.

I basically agree with everything you said.

It shouldn’t be too difficult for people to either:
      A) Mind their own business.
      or
      B) Stand up for people who are potentially being hurt.

Too bad it’s easier for teenagers to gossip about nonsense instead of looking for the truth.
