Have you ever had a class where there has been an additional member in your class, an observer, or a student teacher sitting in on your class? Westborough is a strong support system for student teaching. Many local colleges have project coordinators who help to set up pre-practicum programs for their college students.
One student teacher on board this year is Miss Emily Fabbricotti who is working with Ms. Stoker, an English teacher here at Westborough. Miss Fabbricotti is a current junior at Assumption College. Miss. Fabbricotti has been sitting in on Ms. Stoker’s classes and has also taught a few lessons.
“I really enjoy the students here. Most classes are filled with eager learners and different personalities,” Miss Fabbricotti says on her time here at Westborough.
The point of having student teachers is to introduce them to the classroom setting, allow them to teach lessons and develop a personal relationship with their mentor, another teacher within their field of interest.
When Miss. Fabbricotti was asked what experiences she will take forward with her into her own classroom she responded, “Building personal relationships with students is a gateway to effective classroom management. Sharing information and maintaining a level of respect allows students to feel comfortable participating.”
