With April officially underway, the warm weather is approaching, which marks the beginning of Westborough High School’s spring sports season. The highly anticipated WHS girls’ golf team is excited to begin its season, hoping for strong performances after losing many seniors last year. Coached by Ms. Karolyn Choate and Ms. Robichaud, the girls won nine matches last year and were remarkable all spring.
This year, the golf captain is senior Ashley Huang, who is ready to demonstrate her leadership skills and lead her team to victory. The girls most commonly practice at Westborough Country Club, where they have a designated tee time to play. The country club is open to everyone and is a very fun and relaxing place to play golf. Years ago, there was a restaurant connected to the country club called The Civic, where you could enjoy food and drinks after golf, but unfortunately, The Civic closed years ago due to plumbing issues.
Despite the restaurants closing, the team is still ready to play on their home course and get the beginning reps in. Their first match was April 1st, and they are ready for a strong season. We talked to player Nandita Ganasen about her thoughts on the season.
Nandita stated, “We are basically a new team this year, because we only have four returning players. I think our lineup is pretty solid, and I think we could definitely have a winning record this year.”
The golf program here at WHS has always been strong, and we are looking forward to seeing what the future holds for them!
