The 2025 Grammy nominations were announced on November 8, 2024. Some of the year’s biggest chart-topping album singers include Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Beyonce, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Ariana Grande.
It’s worthy to note that female artists have earned 50% of the nominations since 2019 which peaked last year when seven of the eight nominations were women, Jon Batiste being the sole male nominee. The Billboards Award editor, Paul Grein stated on CNN that because “women have dominated pop music in the last few years,” he believes that this year’s nominees will be something close to last year. He anticipates that Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Beyonce will be the “frontrunners” to lead the category.
CNN stated that Taylor Swift is currently tied with Barbra Streinford for the most all-time nominations by a female artist. After winning Album of the Year for her album Midnights, this year she has six nominations. Lots of fans are hoping she wins a seventh for her Tortured Poets Department album to break the record.
Other notable artists include Chappel Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Charli XCX who have all this year broken out to become mega mainstream artists. Sabrina Carpenter’s Short ‘n Sweet album is one of the most popular albums of this year and Charli XCX’s Brat album is all over TikTok.
There will definitely be drama at this year’s Grammys with Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us” aimed toward Drake subject to earning a nomination. It was released last spring during their highly publicized feud and it spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Celine Dion is expected to enter the Grammy race after her documentary I Am Celine Dion which explains her struggles dealing with stiff person syndrome many believe that she will be one of the nominees in the Best Music Film category and it would be her first Grammy nomination since 2001.
Beyonce received 11 Grammy nominations, breaking a tie to become the most nominated artist in Grammy history. Her album Cowboy Carter and its single “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” received recognition in several categories including album of the year and record of the year. Charli XCX, Billie, Kendrick, and Post are close runner-ups with seven nominations each. She competes with Charli XCX’s 360, “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish, “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar, “ Fortnight” by Taylor Swift and Post Malone, “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter, “Good Luck, Babe” by Chapell Roan, and “ Now and Then” by the Beatles.
