Hopeless is a must read for Colleen Hoover Fans

Yael Bugaev '24, Arts and Entertainment editor

This past summer many teenage girls were inspired to read some fiction books. A majority of these books were by author Colleen Hoover. This past summer I read numerous of her books. The most recent one I read was Hopeless and it’s a must read.

The novel is based in the present where a 17-year-old, Sky has been homeschooled her whole life. But this year she and her best friend, Six, convinced her mom to let Sky go to public school her senior year. Sky is very introverted and anti-social. This year Six is going abroad to study so Sky will not have any friends going into the school year. Many know of Sky because of Six, as a result of this, many rumors have already started going around the school. Then Dean Holder comes into Sky’s life. Many know of him as Holder, someone with a reputation and a “bad boy.” Throughout the novel, their friendship grows and they both find out some things about each other that you must read to find out. The story is based on two perspectives, Sky in the present, and her life 13 years earlier.

Hopeless has many surprises, turns of events, and cliffhangers throughout the whole novel. It took me two days to read the book because I just couldn’t put it down. After every chapter, I had to continue because I had to find out what would happen next. The ending of the novel was not expected and it is exactly why I enjoyed the book so much.

I would recommend this novel to anybody who enjoys Colleen Hoover’s books as well as romance novels. I say: put Hopeless on the top of your list to read. I gave this novel a 10/10.

Hoover’s novels are all romance and start with a similar storyline; they are all extremely different and have diverse endings. This is why I enjoyed Hopeless and her previous books.  If you are looking for a book to read for pure enjoyment, romance, and excitement then read Colleen Hoover.

Hoover is coming out with the sequel to her novel It Ends with Us on October 18. It Starts with Us is the name of the new novel.
