Taylor Swift’s Sad Beautiful Tragic fight with the Music Industry

On Friday, November 12, 2021 Taylor Swift left the world in tears when she rereleased her 2012 album, Red.  In releasing this album, Swift has reclaimed her power.  Not only towards her ex-boyfriend who caused her so much pain, but towards her old manager Scooter Braun.  Last November, Braun and Swift were publicly feuding as Swift finally came forward about what was going on behind closed curtains.  Swift acted with bravery in what she did to oppose “the industry.”

In June 2019, Scooter Braun bought Big Machine (record label company) and along with it the rights to most of Swifts’ work.  This led to a major battle in who has control over her music.  Seventeen months after the purchase, Braun sealed the deal in a deal worth over $300 million.  Swift revealed later that the new owner of her music was a company by the name of Shamrock Holdings.

This iconic album brings her listeners through dozens of emotions as she retells her life stories through song.  In this newly released album Swift added 10 new songs from “the vault”, one of these being the long awaited 10 minute version of “All Too Well”.

“All Too Well” is to say the least, a tear jerker.  Going through the manipulative relationship Swift experienced at such a young age.

Taylor Swift, or “blondie” as she’s known as to her fandom,  also partnered with several new artists for her new songs including Phoebe Bridgers and Chris Stapleton.  She also reinvited old partners like Ed Sheeran and Gary Lightbody back to the studio to re-record their songs.

Overcoming so many challenges at a young age goes to show just how brave Swift really is.  She fought to defend herself and to reclaim her ownership over her songs. As a Taylor Swift fan, watching her stand up for herself and defend her title is beyond inspiring.  Swift signed with Scooter and unknowingly started her battle at age 15.  The same age as me.  She is now 31, and has finally won.  Swift has proven to her whole fandom that you can achieve anything you put your mind to, as long as you don’t give up.
