Netflix’s newest limited series Unbelievable is based on the true story about a woman who reports to police she was raped.  However, her report is doubted by both authorities and loved ones and she is pressured into taking back her claim. As a result from her original claim and a series of other related sexual assaults, two detectives lead the case to find the person behind these crimes. This series acts both as an enthralling and investing buddy-cop investigation as well as an extremely important and relevant insight into victims of sexual assault.

First off, every performance here is amazing. Kaitlyn Denver as Marie Adler really sells her character. She does such a good job of making us feel for her and I cannot stress how genuine and real her performance feels–especially in moments where she’s treated horribly by the system and not taken seriously. That I think is something that’s really important at this point in time to see portrayed on-screen and in film. Denver was great here and I’d love to see her in future shows/films.

Toni Collette and Merrit Wever as detectives Grace Rasmussen and Karen Duval also give outstanding performances. Not only are they great on their own, but their buddy-cop dynamic also works so well here. They have this amazing chemistry whenever they’re on-screen together, and they really help carry this show. You really come to care about them and their partnership as it develops and grows throughout the series.

I also have to mention just how invested you become watching this show. After finishing the first episode, I couldn’t help myself from binging the remaining 7 or so hours left of episodes in one go. It’s been such a long time since a series has kept me glued to the screen like this one did. The situations these characters are placed in and the obstacles they must make it through kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. It was such a thrilling experience and at certain points hard to watch but was all worth it.

This is a show I think deserves a lot of attention and praise. For me, this is one of the best Netflix originals I’ve ever seen. An intense drama filled with amazing performances combined with an authentic story makes Netflix’s Unbelievable a remarkable series and a must-see for audiences.
