The Westborough Rangers varsity football team kicks off a new season Saturday against Tantasqua Regional. The game is at 2:00 pm at Westborough High School, and the team hopes to improve on last year’s record of 3-8.
The Rangers have improved every year during Coach Tinglof’s three-year tenure, but it will continue to be an uphill battle with the losses of seniors Avery Andrews and Jon Ashton who graduated last year.
Andrews led the Rangers in tackles and total touchdowns, while Ashton was a staple on the line and a key presence in the locker room.
Leading this year’s team are senior returning quarterback Peter LaMountain, a senior running back trio of Martin Moran, Michael Keough and Jacob Clancy, and contributors on defense such as senior Sam Lis (safety) and senior Joe Fitzgerald (linebacker).
Moran and Keough are team captains along with lineman Liam Dolan.
Improvement from the entire team starts with the leadership of the captains, Moran states, “Just take it week-by-week, try to win every game.”
Dolan went with a bolder claim of “Super Bowl or bust!”
In any case, this is sure to be another exciting year for Rangers football.
