Last school year, WHS welcomed a new program called Center for Student Success (CSS) to our school. The Center for Student Success is a stigma free program for students in transition of any kind, whether it be medical, emotional, stress related, etc. to support students every step of the way and make sure their needs and goals are met.
The program began from a team of school psychologists and various staff members who had heard about CSS and believed in its positive impact on the school community. CSS at the high school is currently run by Ms. Camille and Ms. Balacco who both have backgrounds in psychology and counseling. This year an academic support teacher has been added–Ms. Green who is a former English teacher now assisting in the program.
Ms. Camille described students’ experiences with CSS as “when students work with CSS, every plan is different. Every student has their own set of goals (academic and/or emotional) and they work closely with CSS staff every step of the way. Sessions with CSS students can involve a variety of different things like: academic management, emotional management, learning study habits, learning about mindfulness, how to combat stress, and so much more. Every session is different because of the unique needs of every person, which keeps things exciting!”
Although CSS has an open-door policy and welcomes students coming by to say hello or ask for a strategy, they would like you to talk to your Guidance Counselor if you feel you need more support at school. Over the course of last year, CSS helped over 50 students and has already helped 20 different students for various reasons this year.
No matter who you are, you should never feel ashamed to get the help and support you need. CSS’ goal is to make sure students of all types utilize this beneficial program and stay as healthy (mentally and physically) as they can.
If you have any questions feel free to stop by the CSS room at B211, right in between Mr. Myers and Mr. Perryman’s classrooms, or talk to your guidance counselor about getting involved.
