As a Japanese hibachi, steakhouse, and sushi joint, Sachi is the newest addition to the Bay State Commons and Westborough’s growing culinary economy. This upscale restaurant was opened in September 2012 by Jin Chen and his wife Tina Wang.
Sachi is an authentic Japanese restaurant decorated with classic Asian water features and soft, colorful lighting. The dim lighting creates an alluring atmosphere that invites people into one of two dining rooms or the full bar. Despite Sachi’s fancy accommodations, it is a casual eatery which makes it a great place for friendly gatherings and quick get-togethers.
In addition to classic sushi rolls, Sachi offers a variety of specialty platters for larger parties and sharing. Typical dishes include fried calamari, edamame,Californiarolls, and other types of fish. The food is always served fresh and made to order to meet their high quality standards. Each plate is crafted by skilled chefs to appeal visually to the diner which also contributes to the quality of each item. Though eye appealing, Sachi’s serving sizes for most plates are on the smaller side. And the bigger meals and dishes such as the fifty piece sushi platter or the steak are significantly more expensive ranging from about twenty to fifty dollars. Appetizers and six piece rolls are all under ten dollars. Sachi’s food may be considered a splurge since the amount spent on a meal isn’t worth the quantity of food you receive.
As for the service, Sachi’s waiters and waitresses come off as hostile and impatient. Their attentiveness to our needs was met with an irritated edge like they wanted us to hurry, order, eat and leave as fast as possible. There was little to no conversation with the server and they seemed to brush off questions or answer them as brusquely as possible. The communication between the staff also lacked clarity and understanding. The staff lost some of our orders in the computer system which caused confusion and the manager could be seen openly scolding the workers. This was unnecessary and took away from the dining experience.
In conclusion Sachi may have excellent cuisine, but one can find similar food elsewhere- without the poor service or high prices.
