This past summer, Westborough High School hired a new cheerleading coach, Jenn Metivier. Once a cheerleader herself, Coach Metivier is very excited about the upcoming season. She started cheerleading when she was five years old in pop warner for the town of Marlborough, her home town, and continued her career throughout high school while also participating on an all-star cheer team. As a cheerleader, Coach Metivier was always a main base, one of the main people responsible for holding up the flyer. Although she still had years of all-star cheerleading ahead of her, she was forced to stop due to a career ending knee injury that required surgery.
Along with coaching a high school team, Metivier also coaches a youth team, Hudson Youth Cheer and works with girls in grades 4 through 6. She has worked with other all-star teams in the past. It’s been her dream to coach a high school team because it contains both the competitive and football game aspect. She hopes to take the team to competitions and believes that the team has the potential to do very well next year.
Coach Metivier is looking forward to the homecoming game and the breast cancer awareness game where the cheerleaders will be decked out in pink. A main goal for the season is to improve the team’s stunting and also for her team to perform at half times for future football games. The team has already improved greatly from their summer pre-season practices. They already look much better than last year and captains, Joy Cho, Emily Mayo, and Courtney Ho agree with their coach.
Aside from cheerleading, Coach Metivier is also a mom and works other jobs as well. Her other jobs include being oral surgeon’s assistant and waitressing at TGI Fridays. Coach Metivier’s daughter also cheers for an all-star team. With her busy schedule, Coach Metivier has learned to manage her time well by arranging events around her daughter.
Coach Metivier is a much welcomed addition to the Westborough High School Athletic Department.
