JP’s Pub and Restaurant, a town favorite for more than thirty years, still holds its reputation as one of the best places around to get some good food with a smile. Upon entering, I found that I had several choices for seating: the bar, a two or four person table, or a booth seat for more family-oriented outings. My dad and I, having traveled to the establishment many times, opted to have our lunch at the bar that day. Service was prompt, within a minute of sitting down, the bartender was already asking happily what we wanted to drink.
After ordering, I began to look around to see the good old beer can airplanes and helicopters hanging from the ceiling behind the counter, and the Super Bowl tapestries still hung majestically next to the pictures of all of Boston’s sports teams. As I looked around, I also paid attention to how service was going for the rest of the restaurant. For a Sunday afternoon, the place was pretty busy, but I never saw anything but smiles on the faces the waitresses as they gladly gestured to where people could sit and then quickly went over to get their orders started.
After I was done admiring the ambiance, our food came. I decided to live life on the wild side and go with the chicken breast sandwich instead of my usual steak sandwich. However, it is not a decision I found myself regretting. The fried chicken was crispy and flavorful, the bread fresh and soft, and the lettuce and tomato were crisp and delicious. The only complaint to be made would be that the sandwich slipped and slid a little during eating, but was nonetheless quite tasty. The side of coleslaw, although a little wet for my taste, was still very good and was obviously made fresh for my order.
As we finished up our food, the point of the meal every patron fears arrived: the bill. At JP’s though, one of the best things about the restaurant is that the recipes and the prices have barely changed for as long as the pub itself has been open. Our food, including an appetizer, two meals, and some cokes and beers only cost about $20 dollars. Some people may say that for only two meals, that’s actually a good amount of money, but for the service, the food and the experience in general, it was well worth it.
