Football fans rejoice. The NFL season is back and better than ever. Week one is in the books, with lots of exciting wins, heartbreaks, surprises, and more.
The week started with a Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles match up on Thursday night football. Not even ten seconds into the game, the first ejection of the year took place, perpetrator being defensive tackle Jalen Carter of the Eagles. However, the game continued. The Cowboys fought hard against the defending Super Bowl champions, but could not prevail. The Eagles held a 24-20 lead when a sudden weather delay occurred. Early Friday morning, the Eagles got the victory in front of the home crowd, and Cowboys fans woke up with a sour divisional loss.
The hometown team didn’t open the season the way they wished, with a 13-20 loss coming at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders. The Patriots, coming off of a 4-13 record in 2024, look to have a bounce back year in 2025. New head coach Mike Vrabel and first round pick Will Campbell are promising additions to the team for a hopeful season. The defense looked strong against the run, holding the Raiders to only 56 yards on the ground, however, the offense’s shortcomings led to a sub par performance from the team. The Pats take on the Dolphins next week, aiming for a rebound win against a division opponent.
One of the more exciting games of the week came from the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh coming out on top 34-32. It was an offensive masterclass from both teams throughout the game. Late in the third quarter, quarterback Justin Fields of the Jets rushed for his second touchdown of the afternoon giving New York a 26-17 lead. However, after a fumble, a Steelers touchdown, and one too many incomplete drives, the Jets found themselves down with less than a minute to go. After a turnover on downs, Pittsburgh’s week one win was solidified in the big apple.
By far, the greatest game of the week goes to the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens. Two of the best AFC teams clashed in Buffalo on Sunday night, and did not disappoint. The Ravens held a lead of 20-13 going into halftime, and when it was 40-25 in the fourth quarter, many thought the game was over. But the Bills offense exploded with a 22-point fourth quarter. With 3 seconds left on the clock, Bills kicker Matt Prater kicked a 32 yard field goal to push them ahead by one, earning the 41-40 win over Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
With JJ McCarthy and the Vikings outperforming Caleb Williams and the Bears on Monday Night Football, week one came to a close. 17 more weeks lie ahead, but they will pass in the blink of an eye, and before you know it, a new Super Bowl champion will be crowned. The best time of the year is upon us, now it’s time to sit back, relax, and watch some football.
