The 2025 Oscar Awards were held on Sunday, March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. It aired on Hulu Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV, and FuboTV.
The evening started with a bang, with Ariana Grande performing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” courtesy of her role as Glinda in her best picture-nominated film Wicked. The audience gave her a standing ovation, but the show continued when her co-star Cynthia Erivo joined her on stage to perform “Home” from “The Wiz.” They wrapped their performance up with the iconic song “Defying Gravity.”
After winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his acclaimed performance in Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain”, he surprised the audience by saying during his speech that he and his wife, Jazz Charton, made a deal that if he had won an Oscar that year she would give him a third child and maybe even plan for a fourth.
There was a huge James Bond section at the awards ceremony had taken up a lot of screen time to honor the James Bond franchise being transferred to Amazon. Three singers, Doja Cat, Lisa, and Raye each sang a different 007 title song. With Doja Cat singing “Diamonds Are Forever”, Lisa taking “Live and Let Die” and lastly Raye performing “Skyfall”.
Following her acceptance of the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her work in “Emilia Perez”, Zoe Saldana gave an emotional acceptance speech about her family and mainly her grandmother, tearing up during her speech. “My grandmother came to this country in 1961 — I am a proud child of immigrant parents,” she said. “With dreams and dignity and hard-working hands, and I am the first American of Dominican origin to accept an Academy Award, and I know I will not be the last. I hope”. Anora won the Top Film prize and its star Mikey Madison was awarded Best Actress for her performance in the film. Adrian Brody won Best Actor for his performance in “The Brutalist”.
