The 82nd Golden Globe Awards, held in Beverly Hills, was a hit this year. An astounding 9.3 million viewers tuned in to the live broadcast to watch the presentation of film and television awards for varying categories. As intriguing to me as the content of the show was, I couldn’t help but focus on this year’s red carpet-outfits.
I certainly do not claim to be a fashion expert. I can say, however, that I have plenty of opinions. My rating of outfits is simply based on personal preference! With that being said, here are my favorite and least favorite outfits of the 2025 Golden Globes.
BEST:
7. Kristen Bell: Bell’s dress, by Ashi Couture, was simple but elegant. Her look stood out to me because of how cohesive the different elements were. I felt like the sleekness of the dress made a lot of sense with her slicked-back hair, which also helped to highlight her many hoop earrings. I liked the color palette as well since it went really nicely with the red carpet backdrop.
6. Tyler James Williams: When I say I’m sick of male celebrities wearing boring suits to awards shows, this is exactly what I want to see instead. Williams’ Dolce & Gabbana suit was unique in its broad shoulders, creating a really interesting silhouette. His rings and chain were also a great choice; the suit was enough of a statement on its own and didn’t need an excess of accessories.
5. Monica Barbaro: I was really intrigued by the material of this Dior dress. It was made with micro-beads, giving it an almost chainmail-like appearance. It was just such an elegant look, and I thought it was really fitting for the event.
4. Demi Moore: I absolutely loved Moore’s dress, which was designed specifically for her by Armani Privé. It was definitely extravagant but still simple enough to not be crazy looking. The shiny material was really cool!
3. Eiza González: This Gucci dress definitely stood out to me. González was one of the few people who went for the gold theme and actually executed it well. I loved that the dress was backless as well, it really added to its uniqueness.
2. Viola Davis: Davis’s dress, also by Gucci, was one of the best looks of the night. The iridescent, rainbow streaks in the cape gave it a really magical feel. She also tied it in super well with her jewelry and makeup. The silhouette of the dress was also very flattering, and I love that she found a balance between uniqueness and elegance.
1. Margaret Qualley: I’m well aware that Qualley’s dress is very simple compared to the other looks on this list- but it was easily my favorite dress of the 2025 Golden Globes. The embellished square neckline, sparkly bow around the waist, and tulle skirt were all absolutely perfect. I also loved her lip color, I liked that it was bordering on red lip without overwhelming the rest of her makeup. Her headband and earrings were also the perfect finishing touch.
WORST
7. Nikki Glaser: This Prabal Gurung gown wasn’t particularly awful on its own, but it did fit a common theme from the Golden Globes: a lot of people were trying to pull off different shades of gold and light brown, and it really was not working. I feel like super neutral tones at an awards show rarely work because people look washed out against the red carpet and bright backdrop.
6. Alexandra Daddario: I didn’t particularly like Daddario’s Vivienne Westwood gown, but my biggest issue was with her hair and makeup. Her bright red lip stood out against her skin and made her look very pale. Daddario is also known for her blue eyes but did not use her makeup to accentuate them at all. She also had a slick back with a side part, which is a really sickening combo. I also thought she really could have used a necklace, because it seemed like she was just wearing the dress, but not styling it.
5. Ali Wong: There was unfortunately a lot that I did not love about Wong’s ensemble. Her Balenciaga dress resembled “Red Guy”, a character from Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared. The black gloves added to a really awkward color scheme, and the whole outfit looked out of place. She allegedly had curled the dress with a curling iron as well, but I think it gave more “birthday party streamers” than “Golden Globes dress.”
4. Jeremy Strong: I was absolutely bewildered to see Strong called one of the best-dressed men at the Golden Globes. What it really comes down to for me is that horrible hat. Who wears a wool bucket hat? In that color? I found it personally offensive. The suit would have been passable without his ridiculous little hat.
3. Eddie Redmayne: Redmayne’s Valentino suit shocked me to my core. I have never disliked a suit this strongly. When I say I’m sick of male celebrities wearing boring suits to awards shows, I am not encouraging this. He looks like the inverse of a piece of graph paper. I’m just not a fan!
2. Kerry Washington: Kerry Washington suffers from the awful black gloves, just like Ali Wong. Her hot pink Balenciaga dress looks like she took a large piece of tissue paper and secured it with hot glue. I think the shape would have been passable in a different color, but the combination of a very bright color with an unusual silhouette was not my favorite
1. Melissa McCarthy: As controversial as it may be, McCarthy’s Christian Siriano outfit definitely wins the “worst outfit” prize. The giant flowered cape made her look like a part of the red carpet backdrop. The worst part of it, however, is the fact that it was a pantsuit. I am a passionate hater of pantsuits. Why not just make it a dress? The excuse of comfort does not work for this outfit either, because she would not have worn a massive, bulky cape if she was concerned about comfort.
Certainly, ever person has their own style, but to see the creativity flowing through the clothing was incredible to see. Hopefully we expect more amazing works of art in the upcoming award shows.
