Everyone enjoys having a week off from school. Not having to wake up early, no homework, no projects. But have you ever thought about the mental health benefits that come from having time off from school?
In an article by Talkspace, reducing stress and anxiety are some of the main benefits school breaks provide. Having time off from school allows students and teachers to destress and re-energize so they are more productive and focused when they make their return back to school.
Breaks also allow students to cope with any drama or issues they may have been facing in their school environment. It can be difficult to properly take care of yourself while you are attempting to juggle school, work, friends, and family. Breaks are a great time to rejuvenate and take time to do things you may not have time to when you are attending school five days a week.
Being aware of when you need a break, and managing your time wisely to provide yourself with much-needed self-care time, is a life skill that adolescents can carry with them into their adult life.
Having time off from school is something everyone has or still does look forward to. It is like a reward for all of your hard work. I encourage you not to waste the time off you have from school, but to rather utilize it. Spend time doing what you enjoy, and do things you typically wouldn’t have the time to do when you are occupied by school.
