Have you ever watched Wizard of Oz? Maybe you wondered how the Wicked Witch of the West came to be. Or if you enjoy musicals and theater, you’re probably familiar with the iconic Broadway show Wicked. Maybe you are just a huge fan of Ariana Grande! As well as what journalist Carlos Megía said: “Anyone who has felt like an outsider can identify with Elphaba”. If those descriptions sound like you, the Wicked movie is sure to become a new favorite.
Wicked is based on the movie, The Wizard of Oz and takes place before the events of the main story. It follows two witches, Elphaba and Glinda. Misunderstood because of her green skin, Elphaba ends up befriending Glinda, a ‘perfect’ blond witch with a dying desire to be popular. Following an encounter with the Wizard of Oz, their friendship soon becomes challenging as their lives begin to twist and turn in opposite ways.
Wicked – Part 1, will be released in American theaters on November 22nd as a PG movie. Wicked is directed by Jon M. Chu, who’s also the director of, most famously, Crazy Rich Asians. The cast is full of talented actors and actresses such as Ariana Grande (Glinda), Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba), Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), Michelle Yeoh (Madame Horrible), and many others.
Sophomore Chloe Flynn, an avid Wicked fan, says that she is “ecstatic to watch the upcoming Wicked movie” because “the cast looks phenomenal!”
Wicked – Part 2, is set to release a year from now, on November 21st, 2025. The second act of the movie is rumored to take place after Elphaba has established herself as the Wicked Witch of the West, and will take more inspiration from the original Wizard of Oz movie. Including the same cast and writers as part 1 of the movie, part 2 will be just as compelling as the first.
Wicked is a 2-hour 40-minute musical movie, so expect to see a multitude of songs and dancing acts! If Wicked seems up your alley, head to theaters on November 22nd to catch this long-awaited spectacle.
