Do you like to cook and eat food? Looking for a fun after school activity? If so, the Community Cooking Club is a perfect choice for you! Not only will you get to try tasty treats, but you can also earn community service hours while having a great time. The Community Cooking Club is open to everyone, no matter what your experience in the kitchen is. This club combines food preparation for those in need, and for yourself.
Each meeting alternates between “fun food days” and “community service days,” which provide a variety of activities for all members to enjoy. On community service days, you’ll receive simple recipes to prepare for local food pantries. After the cooking session, the club advisor, Mrs. Leuci, will deliver the prepared meals to the food pantries. It’s a fulfilling way to give back while developing your skills in the kitchen. For fun food days, get ready for creativity in the kitchen! These days, we offer a range of seasonal recipes, such as pumpkin pies in the fall or Christmas treats in the winter.
The club meets every other Wednesday at 2:40 p.m. in Mrs Leuci’s room on the second floor in the C wing. All ingredients and resources will be provided by the school there so there’s no need to bring anything.
In this cooking club, you’ll gain valuable kitchen skills and learn the importance of food safety. The club advisors will guide you through everything, reminding members to wear their hair up and wash their hands before preparing food.
During each meeting, a club leader will demonstrate a recipe, such as cookies, and then you’re sent into the kitchens with a group of your choice to make the recipe yourself. Club advisors are readily available to assist with anything the club members will need help with.
We spoke with Valentina Carvalho, a new member of the club. According to her, the club consists of “baking and cooking fun foods” each week. She enjoys baking different desserts in the club, and is looking forward to preparing new recipes in the future.
If you’re looking to work on your cooking skills, make friends, and have a good time, then the cooking club is a great place for you. Be sure to reach out to the club presidents, Joseph Derdian and Morgan Garland with any questions you may have!
