Iconic pop duo Charli XCX and Troye Sivan have been making headlines recently with their high-grossing Sweat Tour. The tour, set to conclude on October 23rd, highlights Charli XCX’s album brat (2024) and Troye’s Something to Give Each Other (2023). I was lucky enough to attend the show in Boston on September 28th, and it was just as amazing as the reviews are saying!
Immediately upon entering TD Garden, I was very impressed by the dedication of fans in crafting their outfits. Every person in sight had some form of “brat green” on, whether it was their entire outfit or just a small accessory. Everyone was complimenting each other as well, making it a very positive environment!
Before finding our seats, we hurried to the merch line. It was very well-organized and quick, which is part of what I love about concerts at TD Garden. I got the black “brat” baby tee, and my sibling opted for the “365” tank top. The line was very long, but we still made it out in five minutes. We hurried to our seats in the lower bowl, and the view was even better than I expected.
The opener, Shygirl, began her set right on time. I had never heard her music before, but I really enjoyed it! She was a very captivating performer, and her backup dancers were just as incredible. Her setlist included “mr useless” and “4eva”, two hits from her 2024 album Club Shy. I ended up adding both of them to my playlist after the concert.
At 8:30, Troye took the stage and opened with “Got Me Started”. Soon, a giant green “brat” banner dropped from the ceiling, and Charli and Shygirl performed “365”. The entire set was honestly a blur—everyone was on their feet and we all danced and jumped around the entire time.
Troye’s backup dancers stole the show: each featured solo moments and told the stories behind the songs through movement. The choreography during “One of Your Girls”, for example, has gone viral due to him bringing in actor Ross Lynch as a guest star at a few shows. Unfortunately, Lynch did not make an appearance at my show, but the dancer who replaced him was still incredible! The choreography during “Rush” was also amazing, and made it one of my favorite performances of the whole show! Charli took a different approach, mostly performing with no dancers.
There was an area resembling a cage under the stage, only visible to the fans in the pit. Honestly, my only issue with the entire show was the amount of time they spent dancing down there since only a small group of people could even see them. We could watch them on the big screens behind, but I personally prefer being able to actually see the performers.
The sound quality was amazing the whole time, and loud enough that I was still able to hear it through screaming every word. Both featured albums are the type of music that makes even more sense to experience than to simply listen to, so I was so happy to have the chance to do that.
Overall, the Sweat tour was an incredible experience. The enthusiasm of the fans, stunning set, lighting, and fun atmosphere created the perfect place for Charli XCX and Troye Sivan to showcase their music. If the pair decides to tour again, you’ll definitely be able to find me at the Boston show!
Even if you can’t attend a show, be sure to check out the pair’s music on the streaming platform of your choice! If you’d like to hear both of them, I would recommend “Talk talk featuring Troye Sivan”. If you’re looking to listen individually, Charli’s “Girl, so confusing” is my personal favorite—specifically the remix with Lorde! I also love Troye’s “My My My!”, although it is an older song. Clearly, both Charli XCX and Troye Sivan are incredible artists, and definitely people to watch!
