Cooper Flagg has been on top of the High School basketball world for the past few years and has decided to skip his Senior year of high school to attend Duke University.
Flagg grew up in Newport, Maine, where he attended Nokomis Regional High School before transferring to Montverde Academy. Montverde Academy is arguably the most well-known basketball school in the country and was a perfect fit for Flagg. There, he flourished in front of college scouts before becoming ranked the #1 basketball player in all of High School basketball.
Flagg stands at 6’9” and gets it done on both sides of the floor averaging 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game.
According to an NBA scout, Flagg “has a mixture of Giannis, Tatum, George, and Wagner all in one”. Essentially, Flagg has a perfect combination of skill, size, and strength making him a dominant force on the court.
But Flagg’s not the only athlete in his family. Flagg’s father, also 6’9”, played college basketball at Eastern Maine Community College, and his mom broke many High School basketball records before playing for the University of Maine. On top of that, Flagg has a 6’7” twin named Ace, with multiple Divison 1 offers from schools like Boston College, and West Virginia. Ace Flagg is often overshadowed by Cooper, but is still a very talented Division 1 athlete.
When asked about what it’s like playing basketball in Maine, Flagg’s father said, “Just because we don’t produce the big D1 athletes as much as those other states do, people don’t think basketball is as big (here). But it really is.” In fact, Flagg is on pace to change this narrative by being the first Maine native player in the NBA in the past 40 years.
Surprisingly enough, however, many #1 ranked High School basketball players have turned out to be busts in the NBA. With this said, Flagg still has a lot to prove in his upcoming season as a Duke Blue Devil, but I’m confident he will be a star someday.
So what do you say, remember the name: Cooper Flagg!
