Growing up in Utah and California, Montana Weaver has done it all. Moving high schools as a junior is scary, but Weaver made it look easy. Walking on to the volleyball team last year, Weaver took the role of starting right-back. Immediately fitting in with the whole team, we are lucky to call Weaver one of our best friends.
Coming from Utah, volleyball and school life were extremely different than here in Westborough. Weaver had to get used to new rules, new people, and new expectations. While comparing and contrasting her previous school to Westborough High School, Weaver noted; “We never had any strict rules about leaving school for lunch, or break. It is different here, being on such a strict schedule. Volleyball-wise, our team all hated each other, and we certainly did not talk to the other teams in the program, such as the Junior Varsity or Freshman team.”
Weaver shared this information with Westborough Volleyball last year and made the program happy to hear that they had such a strong impact and high expectations.
Now starting libero, I asked Weaver if she felt any more added pressure for taking on a bigger role. “I feel very well prepared by all our coaching staff, and I feel the team does a good job of picking me up whenever I think I am having an off day,” Weaver reported. “I am so grateful for how connected and strong the team is because it makes me feel a lot more supported and loved on the court.”
Weaver does not only participate in volleyball but also in theater. As a junior, Weaver earned a starring role in “The Wolves” where she was one of ten girls on a soccer team acting out teenage hardships. Being one of ten girls selected for the show was very impressive, especially with little experience. Although she is not participating in plays currently, Weaver still reminisces on those times, as good ones.
Montana Weaver to me is a prime example of making the most out of a difficult situation. I value Weaver’s strength and willingness to accomplish anything. WHS is lucky to have her. Be sure to catch Weaver at a volleyball game, or around school!
