After Mahomes’ stellar performance this past postseason, questions have been circulating the internet on whether or not Patrick Mahomes can be the greatest quarterback ever to play the game.
Mahomes completed 30 of his 39 passing attempts for 241 yards and a touchdown to lead the Chiefs past the Baltimore Ravens in this year’s AFC championship game. As impressive as it is even to reach the AFC Championship game in the first place, Mahomes has now done it in six consecutive years. Oh and by the way, Mahomes has only been a starting quarterback for six years.
On top of that, Mahomes has now reached the Superbowl in four out of the last five years. Mahomes has also been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) two times to start his career.
So yeah, Mahomes’ stats are certainly legit. But how do they compare to Tom Brady’s?
Through Brady’s 23 seasons in the NFL, he reached the AFC Championship 13 times, went to 10 Superbowls, and won five MVPs establishing himself as the current goat of football.
After interviewing a couple of local football fanatics at Westborough High School on whether or not Mahomes will pass Brady, the responses were mixed. Marco Miccuci, for example, strongly believes Patrick Mahomes will be able to surpass Tom Brady all time. He stated, “Most definitely, what Patrick Mahomes has done through the first six seasons of his career is flabbergasting. I am just really curious to see how the rest of Patrick Mahomes’ career plays out” whereas Brady Chapman stated: “No. I don’t think so. Playing 23 seasons in the NFL is ridiculous in itself and I don’t think Mahomes will be able to do it”.
Regardless of your view on the goat debate, fans can do nothing but respect and appreciate Mahomes for the level of greatness that he has brought to the game.
So, you tell us, when it’s all set and done, will Mahomes surpass Brady?
