After a well fought season full of ups and downs for the WHS boys hockey team, their season has come to an end.
After losing 10 varsity players last season, the team has spent this year rebuilding their roster. With a very young team of many sophmores, and even an 8th grader who is the goalkeeper, this is a large shift from last season’s senior heavy team. In addition to many new players, previous Assistant Coach, David Belbin has stepped up to the role of Head Coach.
Ending the season with a record of 6-14 the team fought till the end, despite the many challenges that came their way this season. Coach Belbin stated, “this season has been a success…with every challenge comes an opportunity to grow – and we have done just that.”
After making it well into the playoffs last year, the team definitely was disappointed to end their season early this year, not advancing to the playoff rounds. Although the record might not have been a highlight for the team, Coach Belbin noted, “the team has worked extremely hard this year and I, and the rest of the coaches, are proud of their dedication and level of compete.”
The team has come a long way since the beginning of their season and continued to improve during each game. With a strong coaching staff and a talented set of underclassmen, the team is prepared to continue to improve and prepare for an even better season next year.
