As the ski team’s regular season begins to wrap up, it can be defined as a successful year to say the least. With a strong team of seniors who place high in the ranks, as well as a few standout rookies, the team has had a great season so far.
The Ski Race Team has a different scoring system than most, each person scoring individually, rather than as a team. They race once a week at Ski Ward Hill, as long as weather permits.
With the season starting off with minimal snow in November and early December, the team spent most days on the turf field doing technical skill work and conditioning. This soon changed, as Head Coach Andrew Lipke did share that this is the first time in three years the team was able to practice on the snow before January.
Lipke made a point to mention a racer on the rise, freshman Zack Forjette. Lipke stated, Forjette “…has been excelling in a way that’s difficult to articulate; his improvement since Winter Break has been remarkable, and I suspect with time he will be a State Championship competitor.”
With only a few more races for the regular season, Coach Lipke has been paying close attention to what the postseason is to look like. Lipke shared “As of this week, we have 4 Racers qualified to participate, as well as another 3 racers who are in the hunt. A good or bad performance at any of the remaining races can dramatically change that outlook, but I feel confident that at least 4 of our racers will be in the States by season’s end.”
The team has a few more regular season races before heading into the postseason, one of them being senior night on February 8, at 7 p.m. Go to Ski Ward Hill in Shrewsbury, MA to support the group.
