With the two cohort schedules, online club meetings, and social distancing restrictions, Westborough High School’s clubs have been greatly impacted this year. After school clubs are a significant part of many students’ lives and club officers have had to come up with creative adjustments in order to continue their clubs.

This year, UNICEF club is led by co-presidents Tammy Chen, Ian Welch, and Kaitlyn Tarzia. The officers have spent a lot of time brainstorming new ways to host our usual club meetings, activities, and fundraisers while being fully online.

Although UNICEF club only began at WHS three years ago, it has already made a huge impact on the community. For the past few years, UNICEF has held their main fundraiser during the month of October called Trick or Treat for UNICEF. Club members placed orange boxes in classrooms and local businesses around Westborough to collect donations and in the past the club has raised over $400.00.

During this pandemic school year, the club decided to have a holiday fundraiser to spread holiday cheer. They created a 50/50 raffle to raise money which you can donate to by the venmo “donate2unicef” with your email in the description or by mailing/dropping off a check to “WHS” and putting your email in the memo line. One dollar equals one entry and the more you donate, the greater your chances are of winning.

Chen explains, “The donations are all going to UNICEF for them to help children all around the world with education, water, food, etc.”

Update: The UNICEF Club raised $119 for the 50/50 raffle.
