My favorite part of my favorite season: Ranger Nation Fans
April 11, 2019
It would be easy to assume that scoring 1000 points, securing the Mid Wach league title, winning the Clark championship, and clinching the district championship would be my favorite parts of the basketball season. Crazy enough none of these great accomplishments made the season the best I could have ever asked for. What really made the season special was bringing the community together and having so much support from all around town.
When I started playing basketball during my freshman year the crowds that would come to the games were always very small–just a few parents and some seniors who had nothing to do. Each year thought, I noticed the support and the crowd were growing larger, but nothing can compare to the amount of support we felt this season. It meant a lot more wearing Westborough across my chest knowing that the whole town was behind us.
The student section this year was the best Westborough basketball has seen in a long while. There was nothing more fun than hearing the whole student body erupt after a great shot going through the hoop. I personally loved shooting arrows( my three-point celebration) into the fan section and celebrating with the fans right after the game. Without the great student section, the season would not have been as memorable, and for that–thank you to all the students who cheered us on.
The high school students were not the only ones who gave their support throughout the season, another huge aspect of the fans were the parents and the future Westborough Rangers. It meant so much to all of the players knowing that the grade school kids came to many of the games and looked up to us. A few kids actually asked for autographs and pictures which shocked me completely.
If I could ask for one thing before I leave Westborough, it would be to keep the community togetherness when it comes to sports. The game is easier and more fun to play when there are so many people cheering your team on. Let’s keep the Ranger Nation dynasty going for many years and through many sports to come.
