Ever need a good mystery romance novel? All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven definitely should be a go to. This book is about a popular girl Violet and a freak of a boy Finch who are falling in love. Both of them have been going through a lot to the point of having thoughts of committing suicide. Ironically, they meet at the top of a building. After meeting each other, they grow close and go on crazy adventures. Finch visits all these places first and then leaves Violet figuring out the clues and next stops. He leaves her speechless at the last place he has left for Violet to go. It not only leaves her shocked but as well as the reader.
Niven is amazing at being super descriptive, there was not a point in the book I could not picture what was happening. All of the places Finch leaves clues, every place is illustrated in my mind. Not only that, but Niven keeps the reader excited and curious at the same time throughout the whole book. Niven develops each character fully as to engage the reader in understanding the characters. I could see and in a sense feel how stressed or beyond happy each character was.
Niven definitely sustained my interest at all times. I love that All the Bright Places had romance with a little mystery and suspense to it; this book is perfect for my fellow teenagers.
The novel does contain profanity and sexual references which I feel you need to be mature enough to be able to understand and read. In “All the Bright Places” they based their characters as people in high school. So, I feel like a lot of high schoolers could relate to this book filled with stress, love, and adventures. Someone in high school will be able to relate to it in one way or another.
Niven just published a new book called “Holding up the Universe,” which I can’t wait to read.
